Tonight's dinner was frozen chicken breasts, about £3, new potatoes (probably less than 50p!) and about a pound's worth of salad ingredients. Add in a quid for the Skinny Cow and 60p for two other lollies, another 50p for the cooking electrons, and dinner for three cost £7.20. That's an expensive meal, for mid week. I frequently put dinner on the table for less than a fiver. Sunday roasted chicken dinner may come out at about £10 (including the bottle of cheap Spanish wine or the bottle of local cider I cook the chicken with!), but that leaves us with another full chicken meal, a good pot of soup that does at least twice, and enough fruit salad to do twice (plus some for the GMNT to nom for breakfast!).
