Rehab

Rehab is a process of drug rehabilitation which is made up of several phases. It is a long process and the detoxification is only the first step of it. Physical detoxification alone will not cure the patient. There is mental help also needed. There needs to be a change in patterns and habits so the process is not as heard on the patient. The changes are also needed. The patient sometimes will have to change their lifestyle and make new friends who are not involved with drugs or alcohol. The recovery from an addiction usually requires professional help. The least little things such as meeting up with a past friend who was also an addict, the smells or other objects can trigger memories of the past addiction and this can cause stress and sometimes relapse. Many addicts in the beginning will try to tell themselves that they can fight the disease alone without professional help but this is not the case. The results do not last long in most cases and the victim usually ends up getting professional help. The professional people are trained and know what to do and when in order to help make you well and keep you well. The addict will have to have a strong desire to change and to get well before the problem can be solved. They have to want to get better and desire to change and make a better life for themselves. Whatever the problem was that caused them to become addicts will also have to be addressed.

The goal of the addict is to achieve a lasting desire to not use drugs, then leave them alone. They have to build a strong resistance within themselves and stick to it. Family members and friends need to know how to handle the situation and help the individual in the right way in order to prevent them from a relapse. Their surroundings cannot be filled with drugs (even prescription and over the counter drugs). The temptation may be too great for them. If they are alcoholics, there should not be alcohol in the house and they should not be offered alcohol. People who stay in rehab for more than three months usually do much better and have a much better chance of fighting the addiction than those who are not in rehab for long. Just a few weeks of rehab usually does not help much. Inpatient rehab is also much more successful than outpatient rehab. The farther the patient is separated from the temptation, the better their chances are to be successful. Outpatient rehab vary in theprograms offered. Some of them only offer drug counceling and education about drugs and alcohol. Other outpatient rehab services are more extensive.
