Depression Poem


There are many poems written about depression and they are written from the heart of those who have suffered from some form of depression at sometime in their lives. People in all walks of life suffer from depression and it can happen to children, men and women. Depression is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain and it is through no fault of our own that we may suffer from it. Different events in our lives may trigger the onset of depression but depression is something that we can prevent. But there is a way to help us get back to our normal selves if we get the help and medications we need. Below is a short poem about depression. The poet may have suffered from depression or know of someone who did. Poems are a way of letting others know that they are not alone and that they know exactly what they are going through because they are suffering from depression too or have suffered from it at sometime in their lives.

Depression

Depression is like a tidal wave pulling you further in
You don't feel up to facing anyone or anything

Depression is a huge emphasis on feeling sad and low
You feel like you're in a dark place with nowhere else to go

Depression is like you're falling deeper into a black hole
Your mind feels violated and as though you have no control

Depression is having little energy or lack of motivation
You feel tired and don't want to engage in conversation

Depression is used in the wrong context by naive people
They don’t understand the seriousness of how it affects people

Depression is isolation, withdrawal, low self-esteem and more
You will never understand it unless you've been through it before

This poem gives some of the symptoms of depression. You may be suffering from some form of depression if you are suffering from stress, lack of interest in things you usually enjoy, lack of energy or tired even if you have not done anything, have an appetite disorder (eating more or less than usual), losing or gaining weight rapidly (5 or more pounds per week and not on a diet), have a sleeping problem (trouble sleeping or sleeping too much), trouble concentrating or making decisions, low self esteem, restless, feeling worthless, putting yourself down, headaches or stomachaches for no apparent reason, and other symptoms. If you are suffering from one or more of these symptoms, you should seek the advice of your doctor and they can diagnose your depression if that is the case. They can also begin treatments for you with prescription medications, alternative medications, and/or therapy if necessary. It will take a while to get you back on track so be patient and work with your doctor. Keep them informed of any changes, side effects, etc., so they can help you deal with them.
