Bipolar Depression Bipolar disorder is a mood disorder and is different than major depressive disorder. There are many treatments for bipolar disorder. Bipolar disorder includes extreme emotional highs and lows which can interfere with the victim’s everyday life and those around them. Sometimes it is so extreme, it can be dangerous. When someone has bipolar disorder, they may one day feel so depressed they do not want to get out of bed then on another day they may feel great and full of energy. On the energetic days others may misread the person to be reckless and out of control. Bipolar disorder is a lifelong problem but there are medications that can help you control your life and balance it out for you. BipolarI Disorder (BP I) is the most common form of bipolar disorder. The one affected has one or more manic or mixed occurrences. Bipolar II Disorder (BP II) is a case where the patient has one or more major depressive occurrences and at least one episode of hypomania (a milder case of mania). Cyclothymic Disorder is a long term mood disturbance with occurrences of both hypomanic and depressive symptoms. The four different mood swing episodes of bipolar disorder are Manic, Mixed, Hypomanic, and Depressive. Rapid cycling in bipolar disorder is when at least four episodes of a mood disturbance happen within a year. After an occurrence, the individual returns to a normal or near normal mood. or switches to the complete opposite bipolar mood. The symptoms of Bipolar Disorder may include feeling sad, lack of interest in things you usually enjoy, worthless feeling, hopeless, or guilty feeling, sleep disorder (sleeping too much or having trouble sleeping), rapid weight change ( gain or loss), tired feeling or no energy, restless, trouble making decisions or concentrating, or thoughts of death or suicide. The individual with Bipolar Disorder may suffer from one or more of these symptoms. There are many treatments for Bipolar Disorder. It may take a while for the medications to work for you. Some of the medications will require blood tests first to see if the individual can take that certain medication. Work with your doctor so they know any other health problems you may have so they can prescribe the right medication for you. Some medications will work for some but not for others because everyone’s body makeup is different so it is important to tell your doctor if you are having any side effects from any medication they prescribe so they can change it if it is not working for you. It may take a while to find the right one for you. For people who do not respond well to medications or for people who are very ill, there is Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT). ECT can be a life saver for severe mania or depression. All Text Copyright © dmcrecycling.com |
