Anorexia Convulcional

Anorexia convulcional is an eating disorder which damages every vital organ in the body if help is not gotten soon enough. Many times in these cases, the damage is already done before anyone realizes there is a problem and the victim admits they have an eating disorder. It is important to get the victim help as soon as possible but the problem is that the victim will not admit that they actually have a problem until a lot of damage to the organs is already done. In a lot of cases the damage can not all be repaired. In some instances there is death because the damage was too severe. The brain is affected with anorexic victims and they see themselves as fat every time they look in the mirror, even when they are very much underweight. The heart, lungs, kidneys, and liver, as well as every other organ in the body are affected when one is suffering from anorexia. There is irregular heart beat, mitral valve prolapse, and heart failure possible. The lungs develop a problem which resembles emphysema. There may be anemia, gastrointestinal problems such as nausea, constipation, and bloating, electrolyte abnormalities such as low chloride, sodium, and blood potassium. There is bone loss which may cause fractures later on down the road. Anorexia causes the cessation of menstruation (in females), and decreased testosterone (in males).

Anorexia is caused by several factors. It may be caused by one or all of these factors. They are psychological, biological, and socioculture factors. The modern western world has reinforced the idea into our heads that there is a need for thinness. Everywhere you look, you see skinny models, actresses, actors, and other celebrities that are thin. Peer pressure also plays a part in it because some people feel that they have to be thin in order to ‘fit in’ with the crowd. This is mainly an occurrence in young girls but it can happen in boys too. There is the desire to play in sports and in order to do that they exercise excessively and eat less so they can make the team. Psychological and emotional problems also contribute to anorexia in some victims. The person may have a very low self esteem and obsessive compulsive traits which makes it easier for them to stay on a diet and stop eating. The victim has a desire to be perfect and this makes them lose more weight even after they are underweight. The biological factor that may have a hand in making the victim anorexic is because they may have another family member who also has an eating disorder. These victims are at a higher risk than others and this indicates that there may be a genetic link to anorexia.
