A & P Anorexia

A & P anorexia? Anorexia is an eating disorder which has become a major problem in some countries around the world. There have been over eight million cases of diagnosed anorexia and other eating disorders and the number keeps growing. Society has played a big part in this increase. Some people have the idea that they have to be thin like the models, actresses, actors, and other celebrities in order to succeed in life. Some people have such a low opinion of themselves that they will do anything to feel better about themselves and it is sad to say they resort to something like starving themselves and damaging their bodies in order to do that. If they knew the seriousness of the disease they might think twice about dieting in this way. Crash diets are nor healthy in any form and there is only going to be problems down the road because of them. There is sometimes peer pressure, genetics, illness, and other factors involved which may cause anorexia.

The majority of people diagnosed with anorexia and other eating disorders are between the ages of 10 and 20 with the average being 17. Most anorexic people will try to hide their problems by wearing baggy or layered clothing and will constantly complain about being fat, even when they are underweight. They see themselves as fat when they look in the mirror (and they do this often). They also weight themselves often and make excuses not to eat. Sometimes there is excessive exercise involved. Anorexia is diagnosed in males as well as females although the majority are female. The majority of deaths however, are in males over the age of 70. This is mainly due to the fact that they are not diagnosed as having anorexia so they are not treated for it. The reason most in this age group become anorexic is because the stress of losing a loved one, forgetting to eat, and loss of appetite because of an illness or other reason.

Anorexia and other eating disorders is becoming more and more of a problem everyday so the public needs to be educated on the subject so they can help those around them before it becomes too serious and a lot of damage is done to their body. Anorexia can cause damage to every vital organ in the body and also death if it is not treated in time. The biggest problem is the victim does not admit that they have a problem until they are having health problems which require medical attention. By this time there has already been damage done to the body. In some cases all of the damage may not be repairable.
